SCHOLARSHIPS 2008-2009 - September 24, 2008

Naval Helicopter Association is accepting scholarship applications.  No restriction on eligibility but any student with military affiliation is given special consideration.  Visit http://ismene.lunarmania.com/~nhasc0/nhascholarshipfund/ for the application.  

Grades 9th � 12th:  Fleet Reserve Association is sponsoring an essay contest on the topic:  What the United States Flag Stands For.  Grand Prize is a $15,000 Savings Bond. Copy of rules are in guidance office.  Or you can visit www.fra.org/essay or contact Bud Love at 671-1311.

The Wendy's School Heisman Award Program is now accepting applications from both male and female students who exhibit excellence in the classroom, on the field and within their communities. Eligibility for application is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school, have a "B" or higher GPA, and participate in at least one of 33 sports sanctioned by the National Federation of State High Schools. The Burger King Scholars Program has granted more than $11 million in scholarships to deserving graduating high school seniors. In 2007, they awarded more than $600,000. Awards are $1,000 each and may be used for educational expenses, such as tuition fees and books, during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength or character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation scholarship program is now accepting applications on-line. Of the 250 Scholars designated, 50 students will continue to receive awards of $20,000 and 200 students, who formally received $4,000, will now receive $10,000. Our Family for Families First is a private charitable foundation committed to the support of military families in pursuit of higher education. The foundation will award at least ten $40,000 scholarships each year to deserving high school students whose parent(s) is currently stationed at Forts Meade, Bragg, Polk, Rucker, or Riley. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is offering seven scholarships of up to $10,000 in value annually to assist students who have lost a parent to breast cancer. The 2009 SAE Engineering Scholarship is available to students who intend on earning a degree in engineering or a related science. The AXA Achievement Scholarship are offered to students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive, determination and ability to succeed in college and who have respect for self, family, and community. Miss Alabama's Outstanding Teen is an educational assistance program scholarship program "Promoting Scholastic Achievement, Creative Accomplishment, Healthy Living, and Community Involvement for America's Teens." This is the ONLY teen program associated with the Miss America and Miss Alabama Scholarship Programs. The Gates Millennium Scholars program will select one thousand students this year as Gates Millennium Scholars. The scholarship supports the cost of attendance and can be renewed each year throughout the Scholars undergraduate degree and onto graduate school for those continuing Scholars who choose one of six graduate majors: engineering, education, library science, mathematics, public health and science. Students are eligible for consideration if they: 1) are an African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American, 2) are a citizen/legal permanent resident of the U.S., 3) Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted), 4) will be enrolling for the first time at a U.S. accredited college or university as a full time, degree seeking student in the Fall of 2007, 5) have demonstrated leadership abilities through community service, extracurricular, or other activities, 6) meet the federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria, 7) have all three required form completed and submitted by the deadline (nominee personal information form, nominator form, and recommender form). Auburn University Department of Chemical Engineering has the pleasure of awarding scholarships to new freshmen who have excelled academically. The Elks National Foundation is accepting applications for the 2009 Most Valuable Student Scholarship. The local scholarships are based on Leadership, Scholarship, and Financial Need. Applications can be requested at http://www.elks.org/ The completed applications must be turned in to the Guidance Office for delivery at least one week prior to the deadline. The 2009 Sam Walton Community Scholarship will be available on-line from November 1, 2008 through January 12, 2009. The Kids' Chance Scholarship Fund was established by the Workers' Compensation Section of the Alabama Bar in 1992. This scholarship program provides scholarships to colleges and technical schools for children who have had a parent killed or permanently and totally disabled in an on-the-job accident. The Council for America's First Freedom announces the 16th annual First Freedom

Student Competition.  This national essay contest offers 9th - 12th grade students an opportunity to compete for a $3,000, $1,500 and $750 award, as they examine the First Amendment and the history and relevance of religious freedom in America and the world today.
