Beliefs and Mission PART 2: BELIEFS AND MISSION
Overview: Narrative Description of the Process of Defining the Schools Beliefs and Mission
Headland High School proceeded to define its beliefs and mission by combining its resources of faculty, student body, and community members to participate in an in-depth, consensus-building process.
The schools profile data and the NSSEs Opinion Inventories were studied to help the committee identify key issues pertinent to the needs of the students and community. Based on this information, initial drafts of the belief and mission statement were distributed to the staff for review and comment. The team collected feedback and made modifications based on the suggestions received. The group then met and approved the final list of beliefs and a mission statement which incorporates those beliefs. After a consensus was reached by the faculty and staff, our mission and beliefs were published on the schools website and in the local newspaper. Copies of a parents newsletter stating our missions and beliefs were distributed to parents during Open House and sent home with students. Framed copies of the schools mission statement are displayed in prominent locations throughout the buildings.
